ADMISSION To the Art Gallery is always FREE, it’s in the 2nd Gallery room at Portal ABOUT THE OPENING: it ran 6:30-8:30pm on December 2nd, and included a debut musical performance by the Artist on violin (to a packed house!). ABOUT THE GALLERY Newly opened in Arlington Center, the Portal Crystal Gallery devotes an entire room to showcasing outstanding paintings and photography, with new Artists exhibiting monthly. From 12/2/17 through 2/8/18, we feature the artist Anne Black. ABOUT THE SHOW Regarding her show Spirit Songs, Conversations, Journeys, Meditations, Anne Black writes: “My art spirit emerged early in my life as the core of my being, though I didn’t consciously recognize it as such until much more recently. My life journeys and art journeys have been inextricably linked – art has been my constant companion and refuge, the one place that I felt safe at times, and a place that I kept close to my heart. In bringing together the artwork for Spirit Songs, I was finally able to see the organic connections I feel intuitively between the seemingly disparate kinds of work I create in a variety of media – conversations, journeys, and meditations. Several new pieces in Spirit Songs emerged as I was putting together the show, a celebration of the joy of my art spirit. “A poignant coda to this show is the recent, sudden passing of my youngest brother on Sunday, November 19. I will perform “Solioquy VI” for solo viola, written for me by composer David Owens, at the December 2 opening as a tribute to my brother, and I am dedicating this show to his memory with hopes that his spirit is now in a place of peace.”  For an in-depth interview with Anne at her studio at Arlington Center for the Arts last spring about her art, go to https://youtu.be/llK5antCZnY.
