“LEMURIA”

A note about spelling: we are talking about LemUrians, NOT LuMERians. I want to invite you to please be mindful of your pronunciation. Sorry to say, spelling still matters!

Wikipedia says “Lemuria is the name of a ‘lost land’ located either in the Indian or the Pacific Ocean, as postulated by a now-discredited 19th century scientific theory. The idea was then adopted by the occultists of the time and consequently has been incorporated into pop culture.”

LEMURIAN QUARTZ CRYSTAL

From a New Age perspective “Healing Crystals For You” online, has this to say: “Lemurian quartz crystal is a type of crystal that is reputed to help you to retrieve information about the ancient civilization of Lemuria. So why do lightworkers find these crystals so fascinating? Lightworkers have received a lot of information, while using Lemurian crystals. What has been discovered by those using them, is that these crystals were left for us to use by a very advanced civilization. When you are using these stones, and you make a connection with them, you feel like you are being transported back to an ancient time. More and more of these crystals are being brought to light, and the need for the average person to use them is also becoming evident.”

I like that last line. I like the idea of there being a growing need for more “average people” (as slightly condescending as that terminology may sound) to take up Power Stone Crystals like the Lemurians. But what are they really? Is it fair to say that this ancient civilization and their continent – for which there is no evidence, “dropped” these Crystals mostly in Brazil – which is across the world from where the reputed culture was purportedly located. It seems silly mostly because it is. I’m not interested in debunking anybody’s theory, that’s not what I’m trying to do here.

MY MISSION

The name “Lemurian” has stuck. Regardless of the source, I’m here to demystify “what is a Lemurian Quartz crystal” techmically. I don’t discount the fact that numerous light workers have gotten valuable information from these Crystals. While I question the source and logic behind the name and mythology, I embrace the awesomeness of the stones themselves, which are indeed unique.

CHANNEL STONES WITH A TWIST

As a Channel Stone – per my Ten Energy-Zone paradigm – clear Quartz in general transmits energy. Information is a form of Energy. And while I find a Selenite log somewhat generic in its transmission of energies, I find – with their infinite variety of morphology (shapes) – clear Quartz points tend to add a unique twist and element of personality to their conveyance of Energy.

In the case of Lemurian Quartz, the uniqueness is such that their identity – even to me, who’s worked with Crystals for decades – is a bit of a mystery well worthy of respect. I have much to learn from them, and they have much to teach me. I will be devoting Meditation time – solo, and with groups – towards “cracking the mystery” (further) and arriving at a more advanced understanding “who they are and what they teach.”

PERSPECTIVES

As you may know, I’m generally unwilling to take the word of others out there in the Crystal community (such as it does or doesn’t provide any kind of unified voice). Everyone’s got their own perspective – and since my information is independently sourced – I’d rather be patient and come up with my own theories as to what they’re “really” about (instead of relying on what others say). I’m in no rush to have it all figured out. But I’ve figured out plenty, as you’ll see.

WHAT LEMURIANS ARE

So if this blog is entitled “Demystifying Lemurian Quartz.” What am I going to demystify for you, if not the history and meaning of these stones (at first)?

My goal is to demystify what they ARE – physically (technically) – by discussing their actual form. Later, at the end, I’ll tell you what I call them too, and what “powers” I think they possess.

THE SHAM OF FAKE LEMURIANS

It irks me to no end that MANY people for YEARS (and still today) have been loose with the definition, selling anything and everything as “Lemurian Seed Crystal” to gullible buyers. This is almost as bad as selling baked Amethyst as “Citrine” (when it’s not).

FORM MATTERS

The SHAPE of Lemurians is what makes them Lemurians, to me. You can choose another definition at your own risk, if that’s what you really want to do. I just think if we’re gonna begin to focus on what they’ve to offer energetically, we ought to agree on what they actually look like.

horizontal striations are often very defined and ridged in Lemurians, this presenting side I call the “tongue” side

STRIATIONS

Let’s begin with the striations, you can also call it “laddering” on the sides. It’s true that Lemurians generally have this feature. They’re exaggeratedly raised in Lemurians, these striations – but Arkansas Quartz is also known for having lines that are pronounced enough that you can feel them with your fingers – so this alone is not a qualifying distinction.

The main difference in striations between Lemurian and Arkansas Quartz – and it’s an important one – is that the Arkansas material has the same texture all the way around, but Lemurians often alternate: one side that’s pronouncedly striated, followed by another that’s water clear (and smooth), without any lines.

notice the abrupt “duck down” or “dolphining” of this Lemurian point, whose side is more of a “pin” shape

DOLPHINING

Another distinctive Lemurian quality is what I call “dolphining,” where a side (usually just one) will ubruptly “duck down” like a bottlenose dolphin’s head.

These are truly outstanding and unique features that most other Crystals lack (and may indeed be exclusive to Lemurians). I’m a big fan of this feature, and prize it when found.

PIN vs. TONGUE

To continue the siding conversation – which is one of the 2 most important qualifications for a Lemurian to be a Lemurian – I mentioned alternating, radically differently shaped sides.

One is what I all a “pin” side, because it’s narrow and comes to a point; and the other (or the next) is what I call the “tongue side,” because of it’s being broad and flat. You can see in the two photos above – the one on the right is “showing its tongue” while the other on the left is showing its “pin” (the narrowing side reflecting the light most).

each of these Crystals above is showing a “pin” on the far side, through the clear center of the Crystal, while the top presenting side is the “tongue” side

ETCHING

The photo above additionally reveals quite unique etching on the face of both Lemurians. It looks like a jagged tent Record Keeper. Record Keepers are more perfect triangles, raised or indented, on the surface of a Crystal (that are supposed to hold deep pockets of esoteric information). They are not common on Lemurians, so this is not a key defining feature.

this Colombian Lemurian shows how the ultra clear sliver (“pin”) side in the middle is straddled by more opaque, frosty and striated sides to its left and right

ALTERNATE TRANSLUCENCY

In addition to the Pin vs. Tongue AND the alternate texturing on the sides of Lemurians – there is often a difference in translucency, with one side being frosty and ridged – and the next being smooth and totally translucent.

unusually large extra side, or shaved face on a Lemurian

EXTRA FACE

One of the most unique features of Lemurian Quartzes are the extra faces that appear as if shaved off the Crystal, just below the primary termination facets. This often adds something of a 7th face to the point, and in one case, I have two of them (leading to a total 8 facets!).

I could show you numerous other examples of this and all these distinctive features, but I chose to give you obvious examples, which you can then apply to your own research, finding extra faces like this on all kinds of Lemurians.

LESSER EXAMPLES

It’s important to recognize that all these features I’m mentioning may occur in less pronounced ways, but that doesn’t mean the stone is less of a Lemurian. It just makes it less of a “classic” Lemurian. Which can – but may not necessarily – reduce its collector or metaphysical value.

ELONGATED FACES

Note the piece to the above, which was showcasing the extra face feature. It also has a distinctively Lemurian elongated face – on which can be found 5 to 8 points – look for that as an added bonus of many Lemurians.

three sided Lemurian Quartz

THREE SIDED CRYSTALS

This crystal – to the left – has the tiniest faceted point at the tippy top. Beneath, the sides reach right up to form the main structure of the point. Specifically, just 3 sides of the Crystal do that. The other 3 sides are non-existent or set back, and not “making it” all the way up to the top of the point.

Unlike any other type – when you see this structure, you needn’t look any further for qualifiers – it’s automatically a Lemurian – one of the rarest and most powerful types.

a favorite pink Lemurian of mine, with what I called a “Martian surface,” quite soft to the touch

SOFT FRACTURES

Moving away from the point and siding, let’s take a trip down to the bottom of our Lemurians. They are often – better quality pieces in particular – so finely structured and gemmy that the fracture surfaces (where they are broken off) are soft to the touch, not rough, and not jagged enough to cut you…it’s remarkable!

three Moroccan Lemurians, and the fourth is a Tangerine Aura treated Lemurian

SOURCES

Not all Lemurians come from Brazil, though most of them do. You can find them from India, Madagascar, and Morocco (where they happen to be red).

They’re all quite distant from one another, geographically, but if you learn what you need to know from this blog, you’ll be able to pick them out easily.

Madagascar Lemurian (river worn)

In the image to the left – I have shown you 3 Moroccan iron coated Lemurians – and a Tangerine Aura (treated: essentially plated with precious metals).

To the right, you can see a large, river worn Lemurian from Madagascar. It’s the only one I’ve ever seen! Because it’s so rustic, it ends up costing relatively less, in spite of its size.

POINT STRUCTURE

Next to their unusual siding, what makes Lemurians most distinctive, is how they come to a point.

I’ve likened it to a nuclear hazard sign – see how there are three faces that make up the point – and three recessed triangle faces set back “behind” those front faces.

The other type of termination structure that is particular to Lemurians, is as follows:

regrettably out of focus (it’s hard on the camera) – but perfect Lemurian point with touching pyramids at the point – and 5-6 sided elongated faces extending back

In this second type of occurance, you’ll see the 3 smaller pyramids (or triangles) are meeting in the center, and the other 3 faces are narrow and elongated, stretching back to what amount to be 3 primary corners of the Crystal.

graphic representation of Lemurian point faceting, with triangle-forward facing

Here’s the graphic I made (to the right) of the termination structure that you’re seeing on the actual Crystal to the left. Part of what makes it so great, is that there is good symmetry all the way around, which is actually not that common.

what I call “wonky termination” – which happens in the majority of Lemurians – where the point is not perfectly symmetrical

Most Lemurians, literally, are not symmetrical. You don’t have 6 perfect faces, of whichever shape, “stacked” around the point. The photo to the left demonstrates how this can look. It often gets a lot “worse” (or irregular) from there.

I do believe that the more symmetrical a point, the more perfectly it transmits Energy – and therefore – the more valuable (or “expensive”) it may rightly become.

“wonky body” Lemurian – does not have a harmonious buildup to the point – but instead has other qualities (as a “place holder” and a form of “generator”)

BODY STRUCTURE

There’s another way of understanding the way Energy passes through a Crystal, and that’s based on the overall shape of the entire Crystal itself. This is particularly important in Lemurians. Because of the distinctiveness of their terminations, the body of the Crystal can either enhance or detract from the Energy flow through its point.

Take for example this enormous specimen to the right, which exemplifies alternate siding – frosty vs. clear – quite well. Notice also that it has an irregularly shaped “head” or point. That means that it won’t be useful as a laser, for focusing energy in a specific direction. Rather, and especially because of its size, it’s what I call a “place holder” – providing the general tone or Energy for an entire area – the way that “generators” do.

GENERATORS

Generators are sometimes natural – in which case they generally lean off to one side, and are called more appropriately “Transmitters” (in that case). I haven’t included any photos of Transmitters. This is not a common phenomenon among Lemurians, which tend to be more narrow. Naturally standing Lemurians are a particular prize (I’ve been lucky to have several).

Most generators are cut out of non-Lemurian material, and then polished. Which is what makes me so irate about fully cut-and-polished material – where you can’t see any of the original facing – that is being sold (along with spheres, etc.) as Lemurian.

If the way a Lemurian is formed – the stuff of this entire Blog, matters, than disappearing that surfacing through the stone cutting and polishing process is essentially a disqualifier. Those types of shapes and styles (including spheres) – while they may have once been Lemurians – are now indistinguishable from other cut Quartz. And so – to my mind – they can no longer be fairly called Lemurians.

true Lemurian generator – ultra clear – and with a cut base (but distinctive alternate siding still visible)

A true Lemurian generator is hard to find, and quite a catch. I bought a small stash of them some years ago, and they’re really special (see photo to the left). Ultra-clear, they’re a perfect blend of polishing, while allowing enough original facing to show through to prove that they’re Lemurians.

natural (with texture) on the left, polished on the right (no contour)

POLISHING

Some people are phobic of polishing – I think it often allows the Energies to pass through more easily – or become more accessible to or “from the outside.”

As it happens – and maybe because they’re more prized and can fetch higher prices, per gram, than other Crystals – nearly all Lemurians (at least out of Brazil) have been “doctored.” By that, I mean the termination faces have been polished. I don’t have a photo that shows this clearly – the one above (to the right) approximates this comparison – but natural faces have texture and definition, some sort of patterning (even if not sensible to the touch). Polished faces tend to be slightly rounded at the sides, and lack any distinguishing visuals on the surface, they’re like glass.

buffed Lemurian point

BUFFING

Buffing is a form of light polishing – in which there’s no cutting – but the result is that any discolorations (and some of the natural texturing) on the surface get softened, not only visually, but to the touch.

Buffed Lemurians – which is the only type of Quartz I’ve seen treated in this way – feel like water on the surface, very flow’y and gentle on your hands (and eyes!).

For me, the feeling I get from them is like a fuzzy aura – they lose a little bit of their original essence, Energy, and personality (that they had before the treatment) – but the “loss” is not quite as “bad” as a total cut and polishing would effect.

Of course you can still identify them as Lemurian (from the remaining, visible features). And like the place holder generators, they impart a sort of Auric glow to what is around them. They’re just not as focused – like a wand or laser – as they would be if they were natural (and had a more focused point).

THE POWER OF FORM & DIVERSITY

Have a look at this Crystal here to the left – you can see the point is well formed – and the Crystal is well formed behind it. This is a high powered “harmonic energy delivery system.” It’s all about directionality.

But that doesn’t mean that Crystals like the more amorphous one above are lesser, or have no special place in the pantheon of useful Power Stones. You just have to know the power of form.

This entire Blog – almost more than any other I’ve written – is meant to convey to you the paramount significance of manifested Shape.

If you want an Entity Stone (a stone distinctive for being “occupied” by a particular Spirit) – you choose a distinctively formed Lemurian – it’s like a Being, more than most Quartz. But if you want more of a less defined entity – more of an energy presence – then the “wonky point” or buffed, generator type Lemurians will serve better. Ultimately, you’ll have to Meditate with the stone(s) you come across, and come to a oneness about what they mean for you (and which you want in your life).

MASTER CRYSTALS

I don’t know about Lemuria, or these being “seed Crystals” – but I can tell when I’m with them – that they are indeed “Master Crystals”…very powerful presences in the mineral (and our metaphysical) world.

I don’t like to anthropomorphize Crystals – call them “him” or “her” – or project certain human constructs onto them.

Yes, I have a whole paradigm that I’ve put forth about Crystals – some of that information has been inspired from irrational sources – and other knowledge is derived from a complex web of internal (and increasingly shared) logic.

I’ve had an uncanny vision of Lemurians being like the giant chess pieces in the first Harry Potter movie. They are like Watchers or Guardians. But their particular function and meaning varies from stone to stone though, they’re not all the same.

variety of master Lemurians, naturally standing pink Lemurian twin in the back

PERSONALITY

I believe that most stones are “merely” raw energy, of whatever specific type of vibe their particular variety exudes. Some examples of this dynamic include Selenite and Lapis. Yes, each piece is different in how it expresses the variety’s force, but (at the risk of regretting my saying this) a polished Selenite palm piece is the same as a Selenite wand, except for the shape, which modulates how that energy is delivered.

Some other types – Quartz in general and Lemurians in particular – have and exercise more “personality” than others. What sets them apart from each other is more than just differences in shape. Indeed each has it’s own personality.

Personality is the unique capacity of the stone itself to have it’s own impact, not just as a result of the type stone that it is, but because of the sense of self, or identity that it exudes.

ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD

These are heady concepts I’ve been exploring. I’ll leave you with one more, the concept of the (a New Age term I recently heard) “Tantric Twin.” Couple or twin stone Lemurians are different even from all the other types. Pictured to the right is a particularly stellar example – often the two points – coming out of a mostly single body. The romantic or shared destiny implied by this form is intensified by the fact that this one is also pink.

COLOR MATTERS

Pink in Quartz has a softer, Loving energy to it. Ultra-clear is easier to pass energy through than Cloudy. Smoky bring in a detoxifying Heart energy of Forgiveness. And I even have a light yellow Citrine Lemurian (one of a kind, as far as I can tell). Oh, and the Reds – they’re firey, more Root energy – first or second chakra stones.

CONCLUSION

Again and again, the message here is: form matters.

Distinctions of Siding and Termination are essential in defining Lemurian Quartz.
