Description
To my knowledge, this is from a unique find, in the early 2000’s. I’ve never seen others, and I bought the whole lot. The naturally tapering point has a name, it’s called the Tessin Habit. I still call it a Diamantina laser, because that locality in Brazil was where I first noticed it coming from. These crystals are characterized by a gradual taper from the base (rather than parallel sides), and a diminutive “after thought” point at the end. Anyhow, I’ve not seen any others like this – either the permeated iron-based (or hematoid) red – nor the shape, out of any other source or county. This piece is so special, we had a custom milled (laser drilled, so that you can take it easily in and out) stand that is 2″ in diameter and features a separately engraved acrylic wedge reading “Quartz with Hematite inclusions, Madagascar”. Origin: Africa, Madagascar
